Flying Branch Requirements: AFCAT Eligibilty 2026 

Candidates applying for the Flying Branch must satisfy strict academic, age, marital, and physical fitness criteria to qualify for pilot training. The key requirements are outlined below.

Educational Eligibility

  • Must have passed 10+2 with at least 50 percent marks in Physics and Mathematics

  • Should hold a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60 percent aggregate marks, or

  • Must have completed BE or BTech with at least 60 percent aggregate marks

Age and Marital Status

  • Age should be between 20 and 24 years as of January 1, 2027, for courses starting in that year

  • Candidates must be unmarried at the time of commencement of training

Physical and Medical Standards

  • Minimum height requirement is 162.5 cm

  • Leg length should be between 99 cm and 120 cm

  • Eyesight must be correctable to 6/6 without the use of glasses

These standards are designed to ensure that candidates are physically and academically prepared to meet the demanding nature of flying and aerial combat operations.

Ground Duty Technical Branch: AFCAT Eligibilty 2026

  • Candidates must have secured at least 50 percent marks in Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level.

  • A four year degree in engineering or technology with a minimum of 60 percent marks is required, or candidates must have cleared Sections A and B of relevant professional examinations.

  • The age limit for eligibility is between 20 and 26 years as of the course commencement date.

  • Applicants for specific streams such as Aeronautical Engineering Electronics or Mechanical must hold equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions.

  • The minimum height requirement is 157.5 cm for men and 152 cm for women.

  • Vision standards require 6/9 eyesight, correctable to 6/6.

Physical and Medical Standards: AFCAT Eligibilty 2026

  • All branches maintain strict physical fitness requirements.

  • Male candidates must complete a 1.6 km run in 10 minutes, along with 10 push-ups and 3 chin-ups.

  • Female candidates follow modified standards, such as completing a 1.6 km run in 8.5 minutes.

  • Body Mass Index limits are applicable, generally ranging from 18.5 to 23 for men, with similar limits for women.

Medical Standards: AFCAT Eligibilty 2026

  • Medical examinations are conducted after the AFSB stage.

  • Candidates must not have color blindness.

  • Adequate chest expansion is mandatory.

  • Vision and hearing standards vary according to the selected branch.

  • Tattoos are allowed only on specified body parts and require cultural or traditional attestation.

  • Candidates below 25 years must be unmarried

  • NCC cadets must hold a valid ‘C’ certificate

  • Eligible age range is 20 to 24 years

  • This entry allows direct AFSB selection without appearing for the written examination.

Age Relaxation and Exceptions: AFCAT Eligibilty 2026

  • There is no general age relaxation for AFCAT candidates.

  • NCC Special Entry applicants must fall within the 20 to 24 years age limit.

  • Final year students are allowed to apply on a provisional basis, provided they meet all eligibility conditions before the course commencement.
